March 27, 2026 – SCGC, led by Chatree Iamsohpana, Chief Commercial Officer, participated as a private sector representative in the forum “Connecting Thailand’s Petrochemical Supply from Upstream to End Users”, organized by the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trade of Thailand. The event aimed to provide an update on Thailand’s petrochemical industry outlook and to strengthen collaboration among producers, distributors, and end users in effectively managing the petrochemical and plastic resin supply chain. Ms. Arada Fuengthong, Director-General of the Department of International Trade, Ministry of Commerce; Mr. Kriengkrai Thianukul, President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI); Dr. Wisit Limluecha, Vice President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, joined the panel discussion on “The Situation and Cooperation in Thailand’s Petrochemical Supply Chain”. The discussion emphasized the “Domestic First” approach, prioritizing supply allocation to domestic customers, while enhancing production efficiency and sourcing alternative feedstock to mitigate potential impacts.

Petrochemical producers affirmed that production continues to operate at full capacity with stability, ensuring sufficient supply to meet domestic demand. Polyethylene (PE), widely used in packaging applications such as bottles, caps, and plastic bags, remains continuously available. Meanwhile, Polypropylene (PP), used in food packaging such as food pouches, hot-fill bags, and plastic containers, may experience tightness in certain periods. Nevertheless, the industry is still able to manage supply effectively and sufficiently, despite geopolitical challenges, which remain under control.

SCGC continues to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East and expressed appreciation to the Thai government, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for coordinating with relevant parties to facilitate vessels carrying feedstock stranded at the Strait of Hormuz to resume their journeys. In addition, SCGC has prepared both short- and medium-term measures to manage key feedstock, including accelerating sourcing from alternative suppliers, inventory optimization, and allocating plastic resins to existing customers. These efforts aim to mitigate impacts on customers and business across the supply.
