SCG Headquarters - SCGC has partnered with Toyota to advance sustainable waste management through the “Rot Plien Lok” (Mobility Upcycling) initiative. Under this program, Toyota travels across communities and tourist destinations to collect waste while educating people on proper waste sorting practices. This effort ensures that waste once discarded as worthless can be brought back into the recycling loop and transformed into valuable new materials through SCGC’s plastic recycling technologies, helping reduce national waste volume and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Throughout the first year of implementation, the initiative has successfully collected 11,152 kilograms of separated waste, helping reduce 16.9 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) by keeping these materials out of landfills. This achievement was made possible with the participation of more than 3,000 households, reflecting the power of collective action and community engagement.

The waste collected includes bottle caps, packaging bottles, plastic bottles, glass bottles, paper, and aluminum cans from communities nationwide. To motivate households to sort their waste regularly, participants can exchange properly separated waste for rewards such as rice. Once collected, the waste is delivered to Wake Up Waste, a startup specializing in recyclable waste collection and compaction service under SCGC. Each type of waste is processed appropriately, while plastic waste is sent directly to SCGC for internationally certified recycling.

At SCGC, plastic waste is transformed into high quality PCR (Post Consumer Recycled Resin) under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER brand. This high value recycled material can be used to produce a wide range of durable products that support resource efficiency and the circular economy.

This collaboration plays an important role in reducing waste, minimizing the use of virgin resources, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, it enhances public awareness and encourages long term behavioral change around sustainable waste separation. The initiative is also closely aligned with SCGC’s ambition to recover and recycle 500,000 tons of used plastic each year by 2030, as well as Thailand’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
