SCG Chemicals, or SCGC, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), continues to advance efforts to preserve the Songkran festival as a cherished Thai tradition while promoting environmental sustainability. During the Songkran period, the initiative invited the public to return unused plastic water guns for recycling through Advanced Recycling technology, helping reduce plastic waste, landfill disposal, and inefficient resource use in line with the Circular Economy concept.

Leveraging SCGC’s expertise in polymer innovation, collected plastic water guns were processed using Advanced Recycling technology, enabling the conversion of mixed and hard-to-recycle plastics into Circular Naphtha, which is used as feedstock to produce Certified Circular Polyolefin Resin. These materials can be molded into a wide range of products, including food contact-safe items, as well as food containers, flasks, medical supplies, and toys.

This collaboration marked the first-time plastic water guns used during the Songkran festival were recycled into Circular Naphtha instead of ending up as general waste. The BMA set up nine collection points across Bangkok, including three major Songkran venues—Silom Road (Bang Rak District), Khao San Road (Phra Nakhon District), and Benjakitti Park (Khlong Toei District).

SCGC remains a committed long-term partner of the BMA in advancing sustainable waste management and environmental solutions. By leveraging innovation and polymer expertise, SCGC continues to transform plastic waste into value added products, building on previous collaborations that converted post-consumer plastics from public events into environmentally friendly chairs for public use by the BMA, supporting Bangkok’s journey toward a more livable and sustainable city.
