Alliance to End Plastic Waste Progress Report 2024: Evolving for Impact

Business ESG Circular Economy Innovation Solutions Sustainability Digitization

Singapore – 5 August 2025: The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) today released its Progress Report 2024: Evolving for Impact, revealing five years of measurable success and launching a new, high-impact strategy to accelerate the global circular economy for plastics. As a founding member, SCG Chemicals (SCGC) is a key partner in driving this mission forward.

Over the last five years, the Alliance’s work has delivered significant, independently assured results, including:

    • Waste Reduced: 239,985.48 tonnes of plastic prevented from leaking into the environment.
    • Waste Valorised: 253,211.80 tonnes of plastic waste collected and directed to recycling or recovery.
    • Capital Catalysed: US$610.89 million in third-party investment unlocked for critical projects.
    • Jobs Created: 2,134 formal jobs, supporting a just transition for waste workers globally.

Building on this foundation, the Alliance’s new ‘Evolving for Impact’ strategy will pivot from smaller projects to co-developing larger-scale, integrated programs with governments and financial institutions. The focus will be on select countries—starting with India, Indonesia, and South Africa—and tackling systemic challenges like recycling flexible plastics, while using innovative financing to unlock the necessary investment for scalable solutions.

As a proactive founding member, SCGC is an important driver of this collaborative action. The company is committed to recycling 500,000 tons of used plastic annually by 2030. SCGC is achieving this goal through its innovative SCGC GREEN POLYMERâ„Ē portfolio, which offers certified, high-quality recycled resins for various applications, including food-grade packaging.

This commitment is matched by tangible action through transformative initiatives. Programs like Nets Up, which turns discarded fishing nets into marine materials for upcycling purposes, and the SCGC-DMCR Litter Trap, which cleans vital waterways, exemplify the company's hands-on approach to turning waste into value and leading the transition toward a regenerative future.

Through collaboration, advanced technology, and circular solutions, SCGC remains resolutely committed to leading the transition toward a resilient and regenerative future where business success is inseparable from protecting our planet.
