SCGC Shares Innovations and Product Developments for EV Industry at Top Executives Meeting: Innovation Thailand Alliance x Global

Bangkok, 18 September 2024 – SCG Chemicals (SCGC), represented by Niwat Athiwattananont, Polymer Technology Director, shared insights on the development of products and technologies related to the electric vehicle industry at the "Top Executives Meeting: Innovation Thailand Alliance x Global." The event was organized by the National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) or NIA, aiming to foster collaboration in electric vehicle innovation (EV-Innovation) within Thailand's innovation network. The meeting brought together 27 leading organizations from the electric vehicle innovation ecosystem in Thailand, including key local and global companies. The event was inaugurated by Supamas Isarabhakdi, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI).

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, Supamas Isarabhakdi, said, “MHESI plays a crucial role in driving the government's 30@30 policy, which aims to achieve at least 30% zero-emission vehicle production of Thailand’s total vehicle manufacturing by 2030. To support this goal, the ministry has announced the ‘MHESI For EV’ policy, which focuses on advancing Thailand’s electric vehicle ecosystem and establishing Thailand as the largest EV hub in the Asia-Pacific region through three strategic plans:

    1. EV-HRD: Developing workforce skills in the electric vehicle sector.
    2. EV-Transformation: Facilitating the transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles within universities and ministry-affiliated organizations, as well as developing the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicle usage.
    3. EV-Innovation: Encouraging research and development to foster innovation in electric vehicles, which is a key driver in elevating the EV industry in Thailand.”

Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director at Thailand's National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) or NIA, said, “This event was organized to foster collaboration among leading organizations from all sectors in the development of electric vehicle innovation (EV-Innovation) and to collectively elevate Thailand’s electric vehicle industry. The event was honored by the presence of senior executives from leading organizations across sectors, including government agencies, major private companies, educational institutions, and associations that play a pivotal role in driving the electric vehicle industry within Thailand’s EV innovation ecosystem. These include leading Thai organizations and globally renowned companies in the EV sector."

Niwat Athiwattananont, Polymer Technology Director at SCGC, said, “SCGC offers a diverse range of products and innovations related to the electric vehicle industry, including polymer resins and compounds for lightweight automotive parts, electrical wires, and signal cables, and high-quality recycled polymers under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand. Furthermore, SCGC has invested in building a production facility for conductive components used in the manufacturing of lithium-ion battery terminals for EVs and is conducting research on polymers for use as battery separators. We are also applying REPCO NEX’s Industrial and Digital Solutions technology to enhance production capabilities. Our commitment is to support and drive the growth of the electric vehicle industry in Thailand towards a low-carbon society, in line with our Low Waste, Low Carbon approach.”
