Coastal Development and Conservation

SCGC's Coastal Development and Conservation Project has been continuously driven for over 10 years, starting in 2005. This initiative collaborates with coastal communities, local municipalities, businesses in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, and SCGC employees. The efforts include beach cleanup across various sub-districts, including Mueang, Ban Chang, Phe, and Klaeng in Rayong Province. This is to collect the marine debris that washes ashore seasonally. Additionally, we join forces with our partners to participate in the annual International Coastal Cleanup in Rayong Province, fostering awareness that waste can be a resource. We also promote proper waste sorting and disposal practices to reduce marine litter.

In addition, SCGC places significant importance on addressing the root of the problem by advocating for Thai people to adjust their daily consumption behaviors to align with sustainable practices. We promote proper waste management at the household and community levels and have expanded our collaborations on a global scale, engaging both the private sector and civil society. This includes partnerships with The Ocean Cleanup, a leading global environmental technology startup, and being a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), a nonprofit organization. The alliance brings together companies from across the entire plastic value chain to address the issue of plastic waste in the oceans, including the end-of-life management of marine waste. SCGC has harnessed technological expertise and plastic materials to preserve the Thai marine environment. Initiatives such as the SCG-DMCR Litter Trap prevent debris from entering the ocean, and the SCGC Fish Home project serves as a nursery for juvenile marine animals, enhancing marine ecosystems and providing additional income for the local coastal fishing community.
