SCGC presented the Barrier Innovation for recyclable flexible packaging at the ‘Multilayer Flexible Packaging’ conference on November 21-22, 2023, in Barcelona, Spain, followed by the ‘World Plastics Innovation Summit’ on November 23-24, 2023, in Berlin, Germany. Both events, organized annually in Europe by Applied Market Information (AMI) and Luxatia International, aimed to showcase diverse innovations related to current global trends. The emphasis was on sustainable plastic innovations, including materials for recyclable packaging and recycled plastic pellets, particularly Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastics.
As a sustainability leader, SCGC presented an innovation in film coating, BWO1501G, under the SCGC GREEN POLYMERTM brand, for multi-layer flexible packaging composed almost entirely of a single type of plastic (Mono-Material Packaging). This innovation allows efficient recycling while maintaining the same air-barrier properties.
BWO1501G is the first barrier coating technology for PE Flexible in ASIA to be certified for recyclability by RecyClass, suitable for coating both polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) plastic films. It is suitable for various industries, including dried foods, chilled foods, frozen foods, personal care products, and cleaning solutions.
