SCGC Joins Forces with Shell to Develop Sustainable Lubricant Packaging Made from 100% Recycled Plastic, Starting with "Shell Helix Ultra."

SCGC, in collaboration with Shell Thailand Limited, is taking a lead in developing sustainable lubricant packaging and launching '100% Recycled Plastic Packaging' for the premium engine oil brand 'Shell Helix Ultra’, which made from High Quality Post-Consumer Recycled Resin (PCR) under the brand SCGC GREEN POLYMER™. The packaging has strength and durability for transportation conditions while efficiently maintaining global quality standards for lubricants.

The Challenge of Transitioning from Household and Personal Care Products to Industrial Products

This collaboration with Shell marks an expansion of success into industrial product segment. SCGC has previously developed High Quality PCR Resin for household and personal care product packaging and has extended to industrial product packaging with unique challenges in terms of strength and maintaining product quality to its fullest potential.

The Path to Success of Sustainable Lubricant Packaging From 100% Recycled Plastic

Build on SCGC and Shell’s success in 2021 in developing premium lubricant packaging made from 25% High Quality PCR, SCGC and Shell are committed to continuing to develop products to meet consumer demands for sustainability. This achievement has led to another milestone achieved this year by increasing the proportion of High Quality PCR in lubricant packaging from 25% to 100%, piloted in the premium "Shell Helix Ultra" engine oil brand. This development involves the use of High Quality HDPE PCR resin, "PCRH01BN" grade, under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand. These PCR resins are made from Thailand’s domestic household waste, and their properties have been enhanced through a specific formulation to meet Shell's lubricant standards, ensuring optimal engine performance. The packaging also offers convenience in transportation, safe usage, and has an attractive appearance. Additionally, the resins are certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), which allows traceability of the raw materials used in their production. The use of SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ not only helps solve Thailand's plastic waste issues but also increases recycling rates and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
