Medical Plastics is one of the ongoing efforts at Chemicals Business, SCG, to bring about positive changes in society. The availability of medical plastics will improve the quality of public health systems, making medical care more accessible while increasing confidence in using medical devices made from standard plastics among healthcare workers. Medical plastics also contribute to economic growth, which helps reduce Thailand's plastic and medical import dependence.
The continued COVID-19 pandemic crisis has intensified emergency needs of medical plastics, of which Chemicals Business, SCG, has put a high priority on. The company's expert team has worked closely with medical workers to innovate and develop innovations to combat COVID-19 to deliver medical devices that facilitate healthcare workers and keep them safe. Innovate to Serve Diverse Needs
The customer is in a constant stage of change; that is the key factor driving SCG to explore ways to address customers' needs through their lens. Their insights are used as the core foundation for product and service development encompassing a customer-centric approach.
Chemicals Business, SCG, has maintained its progress in developing Innovation Management Process (IMP). Last year, the company successfully came up with over 400 innovative product ideas, leading to over 100 product development projects, of which an average of 15 products were made into the market. Furthermore, the company's innovation hub "i2P center (Ideas to Products) in Rayong Province, is established to showcase the company's innovative products and services.
Over the past three years, Chemicals Business, SCG, introduced a series of high value-added plastic resins to the market. Here are our product highlights.
Chemicals Business, SCG, recently launched SCG PP Melt-Blown, a high-value-added plastic resin for melt-blown fabric production to serve the medical industry's needs. The innovation is tested by the leading institutes with approved requirements mandated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Ministry of Public Health (BFE ≥ 95% and PFE ≥ 95%). The innovation is now being developed with medical manufacturers to bring about the solution for healthcare workers and mask wearers to protect themselves from germs or fine particles.
Strive for Environmental Protection
Chemicals Business, SCG, conducts business operations in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations to create economic, societal, and environmental sustainability.
Floating Solar Solutions are among the environmental innovation series the company created to cater to alternative energy needs. The innovation is made of a special-grade high-density polyethylene that offers excellent strength, UV resistance with a 25-year lifetime, and recyclability. Plus, it is made from food-grade material to ensure safety for marine ecosystems. Over the last year, the floating solar business grew 260% and managed to deliver and install solutions that can generate an electricity capacity of 25.8 megawatts.
Chemicals Business, SCG, also presents innovations that help to improve the quality of society and the environment. Among them is ZyclonicTM, a wastewater treatment solution series for the household, which was developed in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) with the support of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Other innovations include HDPE-Bone Litter Trap made from special-grade HDPE to increase the device's performance; Innovative Recycled Plastic Road, an initiative that uses plastic waste as a mixture of asphalt to make the paved road. Another innovative solution is KoomKah, an application that provides a holistic waste bank management system. As of March 2021, over 160 waste banks are active on KoomKah, with over 11,000 members. The initiative has successfully sorted over 2,800 tons of waste.
