SCGC Bolsters Thai-Japanese Business Network, Fostering Future Investments, Driving Innovations to Meet Global Megatrends at Thailand-Japan Economic Forum 2023

Bangkok – 21 June 2023 SCG Chemicals, or SCGC, Chemicals Business for Sustainability, advances trade and investment relations and propels the economy between Thailand and Japan at the Thailand-Japan Economic Forum 2023. Under the "Co-creation" theme, the forum is geared toward preparing for future challenges.

At the event, Pisan Uawithya, New Business Director at SCGC, engaged in exchanging perspectives and sharing experiences in managing industrial operations and chemical product innovations based on the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) approach in the discussion titled "Thailand-Japan's New Dimension of Economic Cooperation," with SCGC is committed to developing green innovations to address global megatrends. Examples include the environmentally friendly plastic resin innovation, SCGC GREEN POLYMER, the enhancement of circular energy efficiency, and the development of technologies to foster a low-carbon society. These efforts aim to mitigate the climate change crisis, align with Thailand's economic policies, and encourage sustainable economic growth and development between Japan and Thailand and the broader Asian region.

The Thailand-Japan Economic Forum 2023, organized by the Thai Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the AEM-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC), attracted over 200 participants from Thailand and Japan's public and private sectors. These include representatives from Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok, and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The forum aimed to enhance investment potential, foster networks among the new generation of entrepreneurs, and exchange ideas on developing a new dimension of trade economics in line with future global scenarios.

Thailand and Japan have shared a long-standing economic partnership spanning over 136 years. In the first quarter of 2023, Japan emerged as the top foreign investor, injecting over THB 12,000 million into the Thai economy (according to data from the Department of Business Development). SCGC, as a long-time investor in Japan since 1996, has had successful joint ventures with companies like Mitsui Chemicals to establish Grand Siam Composites Company Limited, producing PP compound, and Siam Tohcello Company Limited to manufacture special LLDPE plastic films for packaging. Additionally, a joint venture with Mitsubishi Chemicals Limited gave rise to Thai MMA Company Limited for producing acrylic sheets and products under the Shinkolite brand.
