Business ESG Circular Economy Innovation Sustainability

Nets Up x SCGC showcased innovative marine material made from recycled fishing nets. This innovation is one of the creative products developed and promoted under the Nets Up brand, for which SCGC has applied for trademark protection with the Department of Intellectual Property. The Nets Up trademark design draws inspiration from the shape of fishing nets. Under this project, discarded fishing nets are upcycled into textile fibers that serve as raw material for a wide range of products across various industries, such as textiles, automotive parts, electrical components, and furniture.

Discarded fishing nets under the Nets Up Project can be upcycled and used in the production of automotive parts, electrical components, and furniture.

The name “Nets Up” originated from the collaboration of partners who share a common goal of creating innovative solutions to protect the environment by processing discarded materials that might otherwise become waste into materials of commercial value. This initiative enhances Thai entrepreneurs’ competitive capabilities on the world stage under the principles of circular economy. This project was showcased at the Intellectual Property Fair (IP Fair) 2024.

At the event, Mr. Niwat Athiwattananon, Polymers Technology & Product Development Director, SCGC, welcomed Mr.Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, Permanent Secretary, Minister of Commerce, and gave him a tour of the exhibit, which featured upcycled products made from new alternative materials developed for added value by Nets Up. The showcased items included bags, hats, and casual wear, among others.

Nets Up will be showcasing its upcycling innovations at the IP Fair 2024, which takes place from August 16-18, 2024, at Samyan Mitrtown Hall on the 5th floor of Samyan Mitrtown. Those interested can register for the event at https://www.thailandipfair.com/activity
