IEAT and SCGC Express Gratitude to All Sectors, Acknowledging the Challenges Faced

Rayong – May 20, 2024 : The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Weris Amrapal, Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, together with SCG Chemicals (SCGC), led by Mr. Mongkol Hengrojanasophon, Chief Operating Officer, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all sectors involved in resolving the recent incident. This includes government agencies, private sector partners, and various local organizations that played crucial roles in extinguishing the fire in the C9+ hydrocarbon storage tank at Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Company Limited. An After Action Review was held on May 16, 2024, to discuss the efforts and outcomes.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Weris Amrapal, Governor, Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand stated, “As the administrators of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and Map Ta Phut Industrial Port, the IEAT deeply regrets the incident. We extend our sincere thanks to the many agencies and organizations that swiftly acted to contain the situation. The coordinated response from the Emergency Mutual Aid Group (EMAG) members, partner companies in the industrial estate, and local government agencies was instrumental in managing the crisis effectively. Moving forward, IEAT will review and strengthen preventive measures, focusing on safety management and environmental quality management to reassure all stakeholders.”

Mr. Mongkol Hengrojanasophon, Chief Operating Officer, SCGC added, “We express our profound thanks to every department, organization, and sector for their assistance and cooperation in extinguishing the fire. We apologize once again for the unforeseen incident. Managing this situation was extremely challenging, but the unified efforts from all sectors ensured a successful resolution and a swift return to normality. The effectiveness of the emergency response network, including EMAG members and partners from various companies, was crucial. Their dedication and expertise, along with the support from government and local agencies such as the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, Map Ta Phut Municipality, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Provincial Office Rayong, Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment Rayong, Pollution Control Department, Map Ta Phut Provincial Police Station, and Chaloem Phra Kiat Hospital, as well as partner companies including NPC Safety and Environmental Services Company Limited, PTT LNG Company Limited, Rayong Rescue & Fire Company Limited, were pivotal in overcoming this challenge.”

The emergency response teams from EMAG, established in 2000, consist of a cooperative group of industrial plants, refineries, and petrochemical companies. EMAG’s mission is to provide rapid assistance in emergencies. The group comprises nine-member companies, six of which responded to this incident: PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited, IRPC Public Company Limited, Covestro (Thailand) Company Limited, Rayong Olefins Company Limited, Map Ta Phut Olefins Company Limited, and Thai Polyethylene Company Limited.
