Rayong – May 17, 2024 The Maptaphut Industrial Port Office, Marine Office 6, and the Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Office Rayong, in partnership with SCG Chemicals (SCGC), conducted water quality measurements in manholes, primarily containing rainwater from the surrounding area before its release from the factory. The results indicated compliance with regulation standards, with no adverse impact on the environment. Furthermore, measures have been implemented to safely transport and dispose of water and foam used in firefighting operations, preventing any leakage into the sea or surrounding environment.

Mr. Mongkol Hengrojanasophon, Chief Operating Officer of SCGC, emphasized, “The containment of C9+ hydrocarbon compounds, including water and foam used in firefighting, within the bund, ensures no leakage into the sea or environment. The bund has been meticulously designed with concrete walls on all four sides, standing at a height of 4 meters, and possessing a total volume capacity of approximately 19,500 cubic meters. Rainwater collected in manholes and rainwater drainage channels is promptly diverted and valve-sealed, preventing any discharge into the sea.”

“Additionally, in collaboration with government agencies, including the Maptaphut Industrial Port Office, Marine Office 6, and Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Office Rayong, expert third-party assessments of water quality have been conducted, confirming compliance with regulation standards and assuring no adverse environmental impact. As a result, rainwater from factory manholes is now being drained, and the process of transporting and disposing of water and foam from firefighting operations is underway in accordance with legal requirements. Furthermore, the transportation of C9+ hydrocarbon compounds from the incident-affected tank and surrounding areas to secure storage tanks is also being conducted,” added Mr. Mongkol.

SCGC maintains vigilant environmental monitoring practices and remains dedicated to visiting affected areas to provide immediate assistance. For those impacted, our assistance center operates 24 hours a day and can be reached at 085-650-4049.
