SCGC Wins AIBP ASEAN Innovation Awards 2022, Advanceing to Become World-Class Operation

SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited, or SCGC, earned the AIBP ASEAN Innovation Awards 2022 for its use of digital technology throughout the production process to maximize performance efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and drive the company toward carbon neutrality by 2050. The award bolsters SCGC's regional leadership in the Chemicals Business for Sustainability. Surachate Chalothorn, Technology Director of SCGC, Chaiwut Kittiworakarn, Deputy Digital Manufacturing Director of SCGC, Asarin Sakpichaisakul, Olefins 1 Production Manager of Map Ta Phut Olefins Company Limited, a subsidiary of SCGC, and Yodsathorn Chavewanmas, Lead Engineer – Process Simulation of SCGC, were recipients accepting the award from Dr. Nattapon Nattasomboon, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES).

SCGC advances toward becoming an efficient operational leader, one of the business-driving strategies, by holistically implementing digital technology to enhance efficiency and safety. Operated by SCGC, the plant has been recognized as the first olefins plant where the process is controlled by digital technology. The implementation ensures that every component of the technology is in sync with the entire system under the "Always Optimize" operational concept, which consists of Digital Twin technology, Real Time Optimizer, and Advanced Process Control. Plus, Artificial intelligence (AI) is used for problem analysis. This enables accurate prediction of potential errors in the production process to avoid problems and efficiently drive the production process, as well as managing resource use to lower greenhouse gas emissions and boost business competitiveness.

The digital technology development process at SCGC is comprised of a working group with division-specific expertise, including the Integrated Business Management Division, which guides directions to maximize the organization's benefits; the Production Planning Division, which coordinates with various agencies and manages unexpected events that arise during the process of technology development; the MOC Production Division, which acts as a liaison between engineers and developers while also presenting ideas for new solutions; and the Technology and Digital Manufacturing Division, which acts as an innovator, creates a platform for sustainability, and helps to fuel success.

The ASEAN Enterprise Innovation Awards are presented to organizations in ASEAN that efficiently implement digital technology. Since its inception in 2017 by the ASEAN Innovation Business Platform (AIBP), the award competition has been held annually in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand.
