Business ESG Circular Economy Sustainability CSR

24 January 2023 – SCG Chemicals, or SCGC, has teamed up with Bangchak and the Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation, developing the "Pansuk Box" out of used plastic milk bottles and distributing 130 boxes to collect donations for Thai youth's education and environmental conservation through the "Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation". The used plastic bottles that went into making the "Pansuk Box" were sorted based on principles of the circular economy by employees of the Inthanin Coffee Shop in the Pathum Wan district as part of the "Hotels and Cafe Love the Earth" project, which is run by SCGC and Wake Up Waste, a startup that promotes recycling process efficiency. Since August 2022, the project has collected over 4,700 kilograms of recyclable waste.

Gloyta Nathalang, Executive Vice President, Corporate Branding, Communication and Sustainability Activation of Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, said, "Over the past five years, the Bangchak Group's Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation has made significant contributions to the education of young people in literacy, the promotion of environmental protection through circular economy principles, and the promotion of solar energy in agricultural systems. The foundation collaborates with partners to produce excellent practices and positive results that promote sustainability for youth and neighboring communities. Collaboration with SCGC, a partner with similar environmental goals, has led to the project's ongoing expansion. SCGC's material expertise also adds new value to used plastics. Customers and the general public are welcome to donate to the foundation through the "Pansuk Box" at the Inthanin Coffee Shop to collectively spread sustainable happiness to Thai youth".

Visnu Vongsumitr, Managing Director of Bangchak Retail Company Limited, added, "Inthanin is a green coffee brand that seeks to efficiently manage waste in its business while meeting the needs of society's stakeholders. SCGC has educated on waste sorting, which has led to the collection of used milk bottles and gallons that will eventually be transformed into the "Pansuk Box" as a means of raising funds to promote the education of Thai youth. It is a source of pride for the Inthanin staff to positively impact society and the environment".

Krisada Ruangchotevit, Head of ESG Office of SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited, said, "SCGC recognizes environmental issues, adopts the circular economy as a business practice, and employs it as its primary mission for sustainable development. The Hotels and Café Love the Earth project is one of the projects undertaken by SCGC in collaboration with hotels and cafés, including the Inthanin Coffee Shop. This initiative aims to create a business ecosystem based on the circular economy, where resources are recirculated to increase efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The 'Pansuk Box' is one of the outcomes of a collaboration between Inthanin and Wake Up Waste, an in-house startup of SCGC, that created a platform to make recycling more accessible through waste management, standardized reporting systems, reduced storage space, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. SCGC is dedicated to consistently creating innovations to satisfy consumer needs and address waste management issues. A 'Pansuk Box' is 100% made from recycled material, five used milk bottles are used to make one ‘Pansuk Box’, and can be recycled at the end of its service life, creating value for used plastic. Customers of Inthanin Coffee Shop can make donations through the 'Pansuk Box' at any Inthanin Coffee Shop nationwide".

The Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation intends to use donations to promote the learning process of youth in terms of education, skills development, and environmental awareness through various projects. This is to allow children to learn through hands-on experiences, such as the Fun Reading, Writing & Learning Project, which seeks to enhance children's reading and writing skills, a crucial first step in education. Another initiative is Rak Pan Suk Junior, in which eight learning stations have been established to instill environmental consciousness and the principles of a circular economy, as well as to assist in the learning and understanding of waste sorting.
