Business ESG Circular Economy Innovation

Bangkok – July 8, 2022 Mr.Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, presided over the opening ceremony of IP Fair 2022, which was held with the concept “Mundeeverse” and aimed at inspiring younger generations to take advantage of intellectual properties in various dimensions. He and Mr.Vuttikrai Leeewiraphan also visited SCGC’s booth to view SCGC Floating Solar Solutions, Thailand’s first pontoon and anchor system for solar cell panel installation, where he was welcomed by Mr.Pisan Uawithya, New Business Director, along with the executives of SCG Chemicals Plc., or SCGC.

SCGC Floating Solar Solutions is Thailands first-ever pontoon and anchor system for solar cell panel installation. Developed with SCGC’s expertise in engineering and material science, it is a green innovation for which SCGC has filed over 40 invention patents, petty patents, and industrial design patents to the Department of Intellectual Property of Thailand and patent offices in various countries, including Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United States. Many of the patents have already been granted in Thailand and overseas.

SCGC has successfully expanded its business plans for SCGC Floating Solar Solutions to meet the rising demand for clean energy. SCGC Floating Solar Solutions has a lifespan of over 25 years and is suitable for outdoor use thanks to special plastic resin with UV stabilizers. Highly configurable, it comes with reduced joint systems and thus allows for assembly without heavy equipment as well as takes up 10% less space for each 1MW produced. This innovation also reduces evaporation by shielding the water surface and thus decreasing the exposed surface area, making it highly beneficial in drought-stricken areas.

SCGC strives to actively incorporate intellectual property management into its business strategies, encompassing IP creation, protection, and commercialization, as well as to analyze and formulate intellectual property plans from the outset of research and development in order to create innovations, products, and services that truly meet consumer needs.
