SCG Forces with Thai Chamber of Commerce, Local Chambers and Network Pledging to Drive Businesses with Circular Economy

Bangok — 9 February 2021 The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand hosted a seminar titled “Chambers Unite to Drive Circular Economy Toward Sustainability” and pledged its intention to promote the circular economy concept through local chamber networks and the Young Entrepreneur Chamber of Commerce (YEC) across the country. The effort is to build a sustainable business model to minimize resource usage, manage waste more holistically, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The group has announced key strategies, which include: 1) design products conducive to reuse or recycling, 2) archive zero-waste approach, 3) use eco-friendly materials, and 4) implement holistic and effective waste management.

The 2021 action plan will focus on implementing the said strategies in commercial and service sectors in 23 coastal provinces to reduce the marine environment’s impact, promote sustainable tourism, and introduce new opportunities to businesses.

At the event, Kalin Sarasin, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, has pledged the circular economy steering committees’ intention. Sakchai Patiparnpreechavud, advisor to the steering committee, also joined a panel discussion. Namthip Samphowprasert, a member of circular economy steering committees, was the seminar’s moderator.
