SCG Wins CSR-DIW Continuous Award 2020

17 November 2020 – Bangkok Map Ta Phut Olefins Company Limited, Rayong Olefins Company Limited, Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Company Limited, and Rayong Terminal Company Limited received CSR-DIW Continuous Award 2020 from the Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry. The Department of Industrial Works’ Director-General Prakob Vivitjinda presided over the ceremony. Chemicals Business, SCG, strives to improve the community’s quality of life by promoting resource efficiency in line with the Circular Economy and mitigating global warming. The companies have followed the CSR-DIW framework along with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve sustainable development in the areas of the economy, society, and environment.

Under Chemicals Business, SCG, four companies have taken concrete steps to establish and promote corporate social responsibility initiatives. Examples include Community Enterprise Support Project to encourage growth and development such as rental car enterprise, plantation enterprise; Aquaculture Building Renovation Project with Saeng Ngoen Beach Small-Scale Fishers to promote local fishers’ work; Fishing Boat Repair Skill Development Project with Takuan-Ao Pradoo Small-Scale Fishers to improve boat repair skills and generate income for local fishers; Zero-Waste School Project at Ban Map Ta Phut School to establish systematic and holistic waste management in line with the Circular Economy; and Olefins Football Camp Project to promote and develop athletic skills of children in communities surrounding the plants.

The Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry, has introduced the CSR-DIW standard, which is improved and developed from the international standard ISO 26000 to conform with operations and capabilities of Thai businesses, covering seven core subjects: Corporate Governance, Human Rights, Labor Practice, Environment, Fair Operating Practice, Consumer Issue and Community Involvement and Development.
