SCG Launches “The Lifesaver in School to Keep Rayong Safe,” Donating Helmets and Hosting “Young Traffic Lifesaver” Training to Promote Road Safety in Rayong

Rayong - 14 October 2020 Chemicals Business, SCG, joined hands with Map Ta Phut police station and Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, kicking off a series of campaigns to increase public awareness on road safety to students and launching the program “The Lifesaver in School to Keep Rayong Safe.” About 500 helmets are given to students of Ban Map Ta Phut School, Wat Ta Kuan School, and Map Ta Phut Pan Pittayakhan School with the goal of reducing accident rates among students. The campaign also featured a training titled “Young Traffic Lifesaver” to equip students with safety education and impart acquired knowledge to their parents and improve social order.

Ms. Namthip Samphowprasert, Brand Management and CSR Director of Chemicals Business, SCG, said, "Chemicals Business, SCG, realizes the importance of raising awareness of safety among young people who will play a vital part in future development. The company has expanded its existing safety program of 'The Lifesaver,' initiated as a company's internal program to communities around the plants and now to younger audiences at schools. The campaign also promotes education on traffic rules and life-saving practices to foster students to become young advocates for traffic safety to assist schools and parents in picking children at school. This project also establishes road marking, crosswalk, traffic signs such as speed limit signs to improve schools' road safety.

As the fatality rate links to the population density, Rayong is among Thailand’s top provinces with a high number of fatalities due to a dense population of 1.7 million consisting of registered population, unregistered population, and foreign workers. Rayong provincial authority has set road accident prevention and reduction a provincial emergency agenda to reduce the loss of lives and property by campaigning the adoption of four practices: don’t drink drive, wearing a helmet, using a safety belt, and carrying a driver’s license.
