SCGC Supports Bangkok’s “No Mixed Waste” Policy, Turning Used Plastics into Circular Naphtha through Advanced Recycling

BANGKOK, 21 September 2026 – SCG Chemicals, or SCGC, has joined a network of partners supporting the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in advancing waste management under its “No Mixed Waste” policy. SCGC also congratulated 153 organizations from across Bangkok’s 50 districts that were recognized as role models in integrated waste management. The initiative promotes waste reduction and separation at source, helping advance Bangkok towards becoming a cleaner city with a sustainable waste management system. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, presided over the ceremony.

The BMA and SCGC collaboration began with project-level initiatives and has since expanded to district-level implementation. It aims to encourage residents and organizations to separate waste at source, increase the recovery of valuable materials, reduce the volume of waste requiring disposal, and support the BMA’s objectives to minimize landfill disposal and improve recycling rates.

A key contribution from SCGC is the application of Advanced Recycling technology to manage plastic waste that is difficult to recycle through conventional mechanical recycling processes, such as plastic bags and flexible plastic films. These materials often face limitations in collection, sorting and recycling. Through Advanced Recycling, used plastics can be converted into Circular Naphtha, a feedstock used to produce new plastic resins with properties comparable to virgin resins. These resins can then be used in the manufacture of a broad range of new plastic products.

SCGC has worked continuously with the BMA on used-plastic recycling initiatives. These include supporting the “This Home Does Not Mix Waste” campaign; transforming used plastics collected through BMA activities into eco-friendly chairs; returning used plastics to the recycling system for conversion into food-grade packaging; and recycling end-of-life water guns. Together, these initiatives demonstrate the practical implementation of circular economy principles.

In addition, SCGC is a network partner in a pilot household waste separation program for condominium communities. The program seeks to develop waste management solutions tailored to high-rise residential settings, with the potential to expand successful practices to other areas of Bangkok.

The collaboration between the BMA and SCGC is an important step in strengthening Bangkok’s waste management ecosystem—from waste separation at source through to resource recovery and reuse enabled by recycling technologies. The initiative will help reduce waste sent to landfill, ease the BMA’s waste disposal burden and associated costs, and contribute to Bangkok’s transition towards a low-carbon, sustainable and livable city.
