SCG Chemicals (SCGC) together with Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. and Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance “Toyota Mobility Upcycling Year 2.” Building on the success of its first year, the initiative aims to enhance the end-to-end collection and management of recyclable waste and used cooking oil, from sorting and collection within communities to creating new value from recovered materials in line with Circular Economy principles. The collaboration also seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to Carbon Neutrality.

Under this collaboration, SCGC contributes its expertise, technology, and waste-sorting standards while integrating its solutions into the recycling value chain. Wake Up Waste, a solution specializing in recyclable waste collection and compactor truck services, covering plastics, paper, glass, aluminum, and metals. The solution helps ensure that sorted waste is managed appropriately. Used plastics are then processed through internationally standardized recycling facilities and transformed into High Quality Post-Consumer Recycle Resin (PCR) under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand, which can be used to manufacture new value-added products.

This year, the initiative aims to establish the Toyota Greentown Ayutthaya Learning Center as a model community-level Recycling Hub, while sustainably expanding the collaborative network to local communities across Thailand. Meanwhile, Bangchak will contribute its expertise in used cooking oil collection and storage, from households to restaurants, to support its collection and conversion into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This year, the project targets expanding its network to cover 15 provinces and collecting a combined total of 15 tons of recyclable waste and used cooking oil.

The collaboration builds on the success of the initiative’s first year, during which 11,152 kilograms of sorted waste were collected, greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 16.9 tCO₂e, and more than 3,000 households participated. The initiative also supports SCGC’s goal of collecting 500,000 metric tons of used plastics per year for recycling by 2030, helping drive tangible progress toward a low-carbon society and supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
