LION and SCGC Enhance “Hi CLASS” Gallon Packaging, Delivering Greater Strength, Improved Resource Efficiency, and Lower Carbon Emissions

LION (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has partnered with SCGC, a leading integrated polymer business and solutions provider for sustainability, to develop a new-generation gallon packaging solution for its “Hi CLASS” laundry detergent products, designed to meet both performance and sustainability needs. Building on its material expertise, SCGC has developed a specialty HDPE resin grade specifically for next-generation Personal & Home Care packaging.

This innovative HDPE resin offers excellent chemical resistance and enhanced structural strength, helping prevent package deformation during transportation. Its performance has been validated through rigorous Chemical Aging Tests that simulate demanding usage conditions, ensuring durability and reliability throughout real-world applications.

In addition, SCGC leveraged its expertise and innovation capabilities through the i2P Center (Ideas to Products Center) to co-design and optimize the new gallon structure. By utilizing engineering simulation, the packaging was redesigned to improve structural performance while reducing package weight by 12%, from 165 grams to 145 grams. The lightweight design improves transportation efficiency without compromising packaging strength or safety, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25%.

For Hi CLASS laundry liquid detergent products, this packaging development not only reduces resource consumption and environmental impact but also enhances packaging performance by improving strength and durability. The upgraded design supports product protection throughout transportation and storage across the distribution chain, while reinforcing consumer confidence in product quality.

This collaboration represents another example of how SCGC’s expertise in material innovation can be combined with LION’s commitment to quality and sustainable innovation to develop packaging solutions that are safe, durable, and environmentally responsible.
