28 August 2026 – Bangkok: SCG Chemicals (SCGC), together with Earthology and Jim Thompson, partners under the Nets Up project, joined a panel discussion on "Unlocking Scalable ESG: End-to-End Innovation from Local Roots to The World's 1st ReNylon x ReSilk," and unveiled the world's first hybrid fabric made from upcycled materials. The fabric combines two post-use materials: recycled nylon from discarded fishing nets collected by Thailand's coastal fishing communities, and silk waste from textile manufacturing. Mr. Paisan Lorpongpaiboon, Head of Circular Economy at SCG Chemicals; Ms. Krittika Chaiwilai, Founder of Earthology; and Weethima S. Boontananitipat, Ph.D., Textile Innovation Specialist at Jim Thompson, shared the journey behind this innovation at Techsauce Global Summit 2026, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

The world's first hybrid upcycled fabric brings recycled nylon together with silk waste from the production process, giving the material greater strength and durability while extending the usable life of silk — all without compromising silk's natural luster. The fabric is currently at prototype stage and is being prepared for development into commercial products.

Nets Up is a value-creation model built on circular economy principles for a sustainable ocean, developed in collaboration with partners across the entire value chain: from local fishing communities that collect used materials at source, to industrial partners that upcycle and develop those materials for reuse, through to consumer brands that turn them into finished products. To date, Nets Up has collected more than 80 tonnes of used fishing nets back into the upcycling process, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 450 kgCO₂eq.
