Bangkok, August 24, 2026 – SCG Chemicals or SCGC reinforces its leadership in polymer innovation and recycled plastics expertise by sharing knowledge and real-world experience in sustainable plastic innovation at the launch of HomePro Hackathon under the "Waste-to-Value for Better Living" project. The initiative provides a platform for university students nationwide to transform waste and recycled materials into innovative products, demonstrating how creativity and circular economy principles can create new value from used resources.

At the event, SCGC experts shared insights into sustainability trends and the global circular economy, while introducing participants to high-quality Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) resin, a recycled plastic material widely used in developing products that deliver functionality, quality, and sustainability. The team also served as mentors, providing practical guidance on product development, from selecting suitable recycled materials for specific applications and designing products for real-world use, to evaluating commercial feasibility and identifying potential manufacturing constraints and risks. Participants were also encouraged to incorporate circular economy principles into their concepts by considering material sourcing, resource efficiency, and end-of-life product management, helping ensure that their ideas can be translated into practical and sustainable solutions.

The project further strengthens the long-standing circular economy collaboration between SCGC and HomePro, which has continued for more than three years through the “Trade Old for a New World” initiative. The program promotes efficient resource utilization by collecting post-consumer plastics, including materials from used electrical appliances, plastic films, paint buckets, and plastic straps, and transforming them into new products through recycling processes. The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to advancing circular economy practices, promoting efficient resource utilization, and delivering tangible sustainability outcomes.

Beyond developing innovative polymer solutions for a more sustainable future, SCGC remains committed to sharing industry expertise and real-world experience with younger generations. By helping develop future designers, innovators, and changemakers, SCGC aims to inspire new possibilities and contribute to building a more sustainable society through innovation and collaboration.
