HomePro, Thailand’s leading retailer of home products and services, and the first in the country to spearhead a comprehensive electronic waste recycling initiative, has joined forces with SCG Chemicals, or SCGC, a leading integrated polymer and solutions business committed to sustainability, to further expand the success of the “Closed-Loop Circular Appliances from Recycled Plastics” project. This initiative, which has been ongoing for the past year, has received positive feedback from consumers, with over 200,000 used appliances traded in under the “Trade-in” campaign.
Weerapun Ungsumalee, Managing Director of Home Product Center Public Company Limited, or “HomePro,” elaborated on HomePro’s sustainable growth and its partnership with SCG Chemicals (SCGC), a leader in integrated polymer and solutions. The collaboration focuses on the development of circular products, particularly “Closed-Loop Circular Appliances,” which has been an ongoing initiative since 2024. Under the “Trade-in” campaign, used home appliances collected from customers are processed through a closed-loop recycling system to produce high-quality post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand. These materials are then used to manufacture green appliances made from recycled content, which have received positive consumer feedback. Notable examples include the Haier eco-friendly refrigerator, Venz eco-freindly fan, and Stiebel Eltrone eco-friendly water heater.
In 2025, HomePro and SCGC will continue to expand their portfolio of closed-loop circular appliances in collaboration with leading brands. Earlier this year, they introduced the Samsung eco-friendly refrigerator and washing machine, the Mazuma eco-friendly water heater, and the Toshiba eco-friendly washing machine. This partnership with SCGC not only supports sustainable business practices under the concept “Make Every Change A Better Life” but also helps bring the circular economy model into real-world implementation. It has also positioned HomePro as the first retailer in Thailand to pioneer a fully integrated recycling program for used electrical appliances and electronic waste—transforming Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) into Closed-Loop Circular Appliances.
Chatri Eamsobhana, Chief Commercial Officer of SCG Chemicals (SCGC), added, “SCGC has always placed strong emphasis on developing technologies and innovations that address sustainability goals, following the 'Low Waste, Low Carbon' approach. Through our collaboration with HomePro, plastic components from used electrical appliances are recycled through a process that complies with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), resulting in the production of high-quality post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin. This resin is used to manufacture new appliances made from circular materials. SCGC’s technology enables the customization of high-quality PCR resin to meet the specific requirements of each brand while maintaining product quality, safety, strength, and durability, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. As such, it is ideal for use in the components of various types of appliances. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in driving the circular economy, reducing waste, creating new value from used plastics, and meeting the evolving needs of both businesses and environmentally conscious consumers.”
