Praram 9 Hospital Partners with SCGC to Advance Circular Economy, Transforming Dialysis Solution Containers into Recycled Plastic Bags for Hospital Use, Driving Environmental Care and Sustainability

Business ESG Circular Economy Innovation Solutions

Bangkok – 18 December 2024: Praram 9 Hospital, a leading provider of medical services, has joined forces with SCG Chemicals or SCGC, a leader in the integrated polymer business for sustainability, to drive the circular economy forward. The partnership has introduced a comprehensive closed-loop recycling system to manage used dialysis solution containers, transforming them into Green Polymer High Quality PCR Resin through SCGC’s innovative recycling technology. This resin is then used to produce recycled plastic bags for use by both outpatient and inpatient areas within the hospital. This initiative not only restores value to used plastics but also reduces dependence on new resources in a sustainable manner, fostering environmental awareness and establishing a tangible pathway towards a low-carbon society. The project sets a goal to further expand the use of high quality post-consumer recycled resin from the initiative to produce other green products for use within Praram 9 Hospital in the future.

Dr. Satian Pooprasert, Chief Executive Officer of Praram 9 Hospital, said, “Praram 9 Hospital has always placed great importance on environmental preservation, following the ESG framework encompassing Environment, Social, and Governance principles, which are the hospital’s core mission. We have laid the foundation through digital transformation to establish a new organizational culture while instilling environmental awareness among our staff. Apart from our dedication to improving service efficiency, we are equally committed to taking responsibility for our stakeholders, society, and the environment.” Dr. Keeranuch Reowchotisakul, Assistant Director, added, “The hospital also emphasizes the '1A3Rs' principles; Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, within the organization to achieve effective waste management. The 'Transforming Dialysis Solution Containers into Recycled Plastic Bags' project aligns with this approach. With the increasing number of kidney patients undergoing dialysis treatment at Praram 9 Hospital, there has been a growing consumption of dialysis solution. Consequently, the volume of dialysis solution containers, which can be recycled, has also increased. Under our environmental policy, we have collaborated with SCGC to convert these containers through a recycling process to create green products for use within the hospital. This project has been active since August this year.”

Chatri Eamsobhana, Chief Commercial Officer of SCGC, said, "SCGC has continuously applied ESG principles in its business operations, with the primary goal of maximizing resource utilization in line with the circular economy approach. Our aim is to achieve Low Waste and Low Carbon, addressing sustainability while paving the way for a low-carbon society. The core of the circular economy lies in managing used plastics to re-enter the recycling process comprehensively. SCGC has developed recycling innovations over the years, earning recognition from many brands. These innovations allow us to produce High Quality PCR Resin under the SCGC Green Polymer™ brand for environmentally friendly markets. Applications include packaging, containers for hair and skincare products, dishwashing solution gallons, lubricant bottles, and paint containers, among others. This collaboration with Praram 9 Hospital involves the complete closed-loop recycling system of used dialysis solution containers. These containers are transformed into High Quality PCR HDPE Resin, which is then used to produce recycled plastic bags for use within the hospital. These recycled plastic bags contain up to 30% High Quality PCR HDPE Resin.”
