SCGC Joins Efforts to Protect Thai Oceans at “World Oceans Day 2024” in Rayong

Rayong – 7 June 2024: SCG Chemicals or SCGC, led by Namthip Samphowprasert, Brand Management and CSR Director, along with volunteer employees, participated in the “World Oceans Day 2024” event. The event was organized by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to raise awareness among all sectors about the importance of oceans and to encourage collective efforts to preserve the richness of Thai oceans. The event was honored by the presence of Kanchai Thepworachai, Deputy Rayong Governor, who presided over the ceremony at Phra Chedi Klang Nam venue, Pak Nam Subdistrict, Mueang Rayong District, Rayong Province.

Namthip Samphowprasert, Brand Management and Social Inclusion Director, said, "SCGC continues its mission to protect and restore marine ecosystems and biodiversity by following ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles that promote low waste and low carbon initiatives. We also drive “Innovation for Better Marine,” which includes innovations such as floating litter traps and SCGC Fish Homes. Additionally, SCGC has co-founded the “Nets Up” network, a model that creates added value through circular economy principles for sustainable oceans. This initiative transforms discarded fishing nets into marine materials, providing new alternative materials through recycling innovation. Furthermore, we regularly engage our volunteer employees in beach cleanup activities."

At the event, over 500 volunteers from various sectors participated. SCGC volunteer employees released 500 sea bass and collected garbage along the Rayong River by boat. They also repaired the sightseeing tower of Phra Chedi Klang Nam Mangrove Ecosystem Learning Center. Additionally, the Nets Up network showcased an exhibition on transforming discarded fishing nets into new alternative materials through recycling innovations.
