SCG Chemicals Wins Prime Minister's Industry Award 2021: The Prime Minister's Best Industry Award and Three Prime Minister's Industry Awards

Bangkok – 13 December 2021 SCG Chemicals, Chemicals Business for Sustainability, earned four awards at the 2021 Prime Minister's Industry Award with "Map Ta Phut Olefins Company Limited," a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals, awarded with the country's highest prestigious prize, "The Prime Minister's Best Industry Award." Additionally, three more enterprises under the business group also received three Prime Minister's Industry Awards in the categories of Circular Economy, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Environmental Quality Conservation, recognizing their outstanding excellence in plant management through the adoption of digital technology throughout the value chain. The awards also signify the success in implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles to achieve sustainable development goals, directions to which SCG Chemicals adheres as an operational approach to enable the business to grow sustainably alongside society and the environment.

The award presentation ceremony of Prime Minister’s Industry Award  2021 was organized by the Ministry of Industry with General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Thailand's Prime Minister, presiding over the ceremony, which took place at the Makkawan Rangsan Room of the Royal Thai Army Club. Map Ta Phut Olefins Company Limited, a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals, was awarded "The Prime Minister's Best Industry Award", the prestigious award given to the enterprise that has earned the Prime Minister's Industry Award in at least three categories and demonstrated operations that benefit the country's society and economy. Tanawong Areeratchakul, President of SCG Chemicalsreceived the Prime Minister's Best Industry Award as well as three additional Prime Minister's Industry Award for companies: SCG Chemicals Company Limited in the category of Circular Economy, Rayong Olefins Company Limited in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility, and Thai MMA Company Limited in the category of Environmental Quality Conservation.

Tanawong stated, "SCG Chemicals has taken a plant management approach aimed at increasing the plant's efficiency through the use of digital technology, as well as managing the plant in an environmentally friendly manner through the use of Process Safety Management (PSM) and ensuring a higher and sustainable quality of life for the community members.  Over the years, Map Ta Phut Olefins have continuously improved factory management to excellence through the application of digital technology throughout the value chain, enabling manufacturing to be as accurate and precise as possible at a competitive cost, such as artificial intelligence (AI) technology to process marketing data, digital twin technology to accurately predict preventative repairs and maintenance needs, and a real-time performance management platform that enables factories to operate more intelligently and efficiently. Furthermore, Total Quality Management (TQM) has been developed to connect corporate goals and practical operations to employees at all levels, and to develop employees' skills to international standards, as well as to boost the quality of life of communities to grow sustainably together, such as the promotion of income for communities surrounding the factory, which totaled more than 27 million baht per year."

“The three awards given to SCG Chemicals: Prime Ministry’s Industry Award in Circular Economy, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Environmental Quality Conservation, reflect the company's commitment to becoming the "Chemicals Business for Sustainability" that operates in accordance with ESG principles, comprising environmental, social, and governance to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a concrete manner and the Circular Economy to boost global competitiveness and foster long-term growth,” added Tanawong.

The Prime Minister's Industry Award, now in its 29th year, was launched by the Ministry of Industry to recognize and boost the morale of businesses that exhibit exemplary practices that contribute to national industrial development. It also serves as a guarantee of the private sector's commitment to developing businesses and products that improve the quality of life of Thai people and stimulate economic growth. This year, there are 15 categories, and 332 businesses applied for them, with only 63 selected for the Prime Minister's Industry Award.
