SCG Recognized as Effort to Enhance Thailand’s Public Toilets

ฺBangkok - 16 November 2020 Chemicals Business, SCG, led by Mr. Pisan Uawithya, Emerging Businesses Director, received a plaque of honor for the effort in enhancing public toilets in Thailand from the development of the reinvented toilet Zyclonic™ by SCG at World Toilet Day 2020. The event was organized by the Department of Health at ICONSIAM, and this year it came under the theme “The New Normal Public Toilet for All.” Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha presented the award.

Zyclonic™ is an innovation developed from the wastewater treatment system SCG co-created with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The innovation can turn human waste and wastewater into clean and pathogen-free reusable by-products that can be discharged into water sources safely with no adverse environmental impacts, in line with the sustainable development goals.

At the event, Zyclonic™ has showcased a series of treatment systems to promote the awareness of an efficient sanitation system and wastewater management to ensure adequate sanitation and well-being of the users and nearby communities. The innovative toilet can help protect and maintain the toilet’s hygiene and stop the spread of disease-causing agents such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid fever, and COVID-19.

The United Nations (UN) has designated 19 November as World Toilet Day to raise awareness of issues on access to sanitation of the 4.2 billion people worldwide or 60% of the global population living without access to safely managed sanitation. This year’s campaign has focused on climate change and sustainable sanitation.
